Woman fighting for life after horror smash

A CROSSGATES woman had to be airlifted to hospital after a horrific road accident left her fighting for her life.
The 36-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering serious traumatic injuries after her silver Mazda people carrier collided with an articulated lorry on Saturday.
Fife police confirmed the woman was travelling with a four-year-old girl, who was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
However, the child is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.
The accident occurred around 11.30am on the A909, near the Mossmorran petrochemical plant.
Emergency services - including an ambulance helicopter, two ambulance crews, two rapid response teams and two fire engines from Lochgelly - rushed to the scene.
Fire crews cut the woman free using special hydraulic gear before the helicopter flew her to hospital.
The road was closed for several hours for accident investigations and reopened later that evening.
The woman was due to have undergone surgery on Monday. A Fife police spokesman said she remained in critical condition in hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should contact 0845 600 5702.

Report commentThat road is a total death trap!! Thats the 2nd major accident there in weeks. I travel on it to work and its super slippy because of the works site and lorries leaving lots of mud all over the road!

Nope Kelly, sorry to burst your bubble but it's not a death trap. It's your responsibilty to drive safely according to the conditions on any road, whether it be mud, weather, other traffic, etc etc; so sshhhhhhhhh.
I do hope the woman and child passenger make a full and speedy recovery, very best wishes to them.

People simply do not drive to the conditions. There are no such things as accidents because someone is always at fault; whether it be driving too fast, not leaving enough gap between cars, not indicating their intentions clearly etc. The Police tend to call them "collisions" rather than "accidents" for that reason.

Report commentHowever you want to call it, its the contractors duty of care to ensure there is adequate signage warning of a 'hazard' on the road mud, gravel, a hole etc or even have a roadsweeper and keep the road clean, like at the open cast pit at Blair Adam and Muir Dean.
If there is signage and drivers plough on at 70-80mph regardless then its their own fault, however there has been a wee mini spate of 'accidents' on that stretch of road......... coincidence?

Report commentI am angry to read the comments about driving safely on this road it is a bloody deah trap i have lived in crossgates all my life and her time and time again of deaths on this road and i can assure you the woman in question would be driving with due care and attention espescially with havin her daughter in the car this road is definately needing something done to prevent further deaths !!!!!
